After 12 years of success in Kona, we weren't looking to expand. But…This stunning restaurant space in the Historic Kaikodo building “spoke to us”! This Hilo landmark was built in 1907 as the Hilo Masonic Lodge Hall and was the original home to the Bank of Hilo. To this day there’s a classic old bank vault and an incredible crafted 150 year English bar inside the restaurant. It’s really cool.

From the moment we walked into our Hilo space, we knew we had to do it! We opened Jackie Rey’s Hilo in November of 2016.

To simplify our life, we sold Jackie Rey's Kona in January of 2023 and now own and operate solely the Jackie Rey's Hilo location. This is where our energies lie-- In Hilo! Come join us!

Meet Angela & Paul

We met in Colorado in 1995. Paul was a Chef and Angela a bartender. Soon thereafter, we took a spontaneous four month cycling tour across New Zealand. We lived in a pup tent, cycled all day, ate ramen noodles and drank a “bit” of beer. It was during this cycling adventure that we formulated our plan to open a restaurant; which we did! We opened Paul’s Creekside Grill in 1997 up in Colorado ski country and began our legacy of serving damn good food. This high country menu featured freshwater seafood, wild game, and American classics with a “mountain flair.”

We sold Paul’s Creekside in 2003 to escape the cold Colorado winters. In search of warmer weather and a laidback lifestyle, we landed in Kona with an old pickup truck, a few boxes of books and photo albums. We didn’t know anyone!  Our vision was to build a community around our shared love for good food and wine.

In November of 2004, our dream became a reality with the opening of Jackie Rey’s Ohana Grill in Kona. Almost 12 years to the day, November of 2016, we opened our second Jackie Rey’s in the historic Kaikodo Building in downtown Hilo.

Meet the Chef

Chef Dave Rodrick

Chef Dave Rodrick has been with Paul and Angela since 2005, a year after the restaurant in Kona opened. Dave has been cheffing his entire adult life with stints on the mainland and in Hawaii. He is incredibly talented!

In 2016, Paul and Angela convinced Chef Dave to move across the island and spearhead the opening of Jackie Rey’s Hilo. This beautiful Hilo restaurant wouldn’t have happened without Dave. Chef Dave is passionate about his Hilo kitchen and works extremely hard to create the “Jackie Rey’s Experience.”

We are lucky to have him.

 Who is Jackie Rey?

IMG_2650.JPG

Jackie Rey is our daughter. We named our first restaurant after Paul, because all chefs want to have a restaurant named after themselves. We named our second (Kona) and third (Hilo) restaurants after our daughter, Jackie. We wanted to keep the focus on family (ohana). From the age of six, Jackie has hustled around the restaurant promoting the vibe of aloha and family that we strive for here at Jackie Rey's Ohana Grill.
